Disney Cruise 2021: Port Canaveral Edition

Disney cruise ship docked in port

Looking to experience the magic of Disney on the high seas? Port Canaveral is only 45 miles from Walt Disney World in Orlando, making it the port of choice for the ultimate 2021 Disney cruise vacation. Although the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy share many of the same features, these sister ships differ in a few ways. Find out which ship is right for you and how to maximize your vacation here:

Ship Information

Both the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy are state-of-the-art ships, with a capacity of up to 4,000 passengers. Each has 1,250 cabins, and more than 85% of the rooms offer an ocean view window or balcony. The Dream made her debut in 2011, followed by the Fantasy in 2012. Layouts between the two are nearly identical, taking architectural inspiration from great Atlantic ocean liners of the early 1900s. You’ll also find iconic Disney character statues decorating the sterns, like Mickey Mouse on the Dream and Dumbo the Elephant on the Fantasy. As for internal decor, art deco embellishes the Dream and the Fantasy sports art nouveau.

Dining

Disney Cruise Line’s unique dining plan rotates guests through three different venues on the Dream and Fantasy. You can indulge in market-fresh flavors under a color-changing ceiling at the Enchanted Garden, French cuisine at the Disney Princess-inspired Royal Palace, and sophisticated fusion delights at Animator’s Palate where your favorite characters come to life in surrounding wall decor. The Fantasy also offers an “Animation Magic” show at Animator’s Palate, allowing guests to design their own animated characters at the table.

Activities

Activities aboard the Disney Dream and Fantasy are unmatched! On both ships you’ll find the AquaDuck, an Imagineer-developed waterslide that propels participants through 765 feet of transparent tube — for a raft ride that is scenic and exhilarating. The Fantasy also has an Aqua Lab splash zone and water play area. But that isn’t the only excitement on the pool deck. Disney Cruise Line throws themed deck parties like no other, giving guests the opportunity to sing, dance, and watch fireworks under the stars with Mickey and his friends.

Entertainment

Disney is known for their top-notch entertainment, the Dream and Fantasy are no exception. Both offer live stage shows centered on film-favorites, but productions differ from ship to ship. Catch shows featuring Aladdin and Frozen tunes on the Fantasy, or enchant in a tale as old as time with the Dream’s Beauty and the Beast production.

Oceaneer Club

Disney Cruise Line provides some of the best supervised youth programs for 3-12 year olds with their Oceaneer Club. On the Dream you’ll find a Star Wars: Millennium Falcon space with interactive panels and animated character props, showcasing some real movie magic. On the other hand, the Fantasy hosts a Star Wars: Command Post and Marvel Super Hero Academy to keep the kids on their toes. Both ships also have a Toy Story themed room, Tinkerbell pixie forest area, and tons of group character experience opportunities!

Adult’s Only

Although Disney cruises are family-focused, there also are adult-exclusive spots to keep parents sane. Highlights include the Quiet Cove Pool and Senses Spa as well as a handful of bars and lounges. There’s also a Tiffany & Co. jewelry store on the Dream and Fantasy, where luxury accessories can be purchased as timeless souvenirs.

Itineraries

Although the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy are similar, their itineraries will have the biggest impact on which you may choose to sail on. If you prefer a 3-4 night sailing to the Bahamas, be sure to book a cruise on the Dream. For more time on the high seas, book the Fantasy instead, offering 7 night cruises to the Eastern and Western Caribbean. Each ship also makes a stop at Disney Cruise Line’s award-winning private island, Castaway Cay, teeming with amenities and family fun.
