There are really two things most cruisers care about: where they can get something to eat, and where they can get something to drink. Now, on a cruise ship that’s pretty easy to find. Fresh off of the plane after a cross-country flight, or just having stepped out of your car into a lot of a Port Canaveral area hotel it can be a little harder to find a good place to do either on, let alone both. You might find yourself settling for fast food and an evening at a local sports bar.
There’s nothing wrong with that. You are on vacation and the day before your cruise is a chance to enjoy the local scenery and taste some of the local flavors.
Crackers Island Grill
Crackers Island Grill is one of the better places to get a slider, hot dog, or hamburger around Port Canaveral. It also has amazing fish tacos. The Crackertoa Challenge burger is also a sight to behold. It’s located in Cape Canaveral just outside of Port Canaveral. It’s a tiny restaurant, but it is worth squeezing into.
Vargas Cafe
Not that far away from Port Canaveral is the Vargas Café, an eatery specializing in authentic Cuban cuisine. They also do Mexican dishes, but the Café’s real draw is spicy Cuban sandwiches, potato balls, and roast pork. It’s an established family run business, so you can ask the staff about the local area and learn a thing or two.
Izzy’s Bistro
Izzy’s Bistro is an oddity. Like the best places are. It’s a big place with an attitude that fits more with a hole-in-the-wall. There is a full bar, but Izzy’s is mostly about the food. Although it claims to be a German restaurant it’s more like a fusion restaurant. We’re not sure of any other place where you can order a lobster pot pie. It’s Izzy’s unique quirks as much as the food that makes it’s well worth stopping by.
Larry’s Shack
Inside of Port Canaveral you’ll find Larry’s Shack. A combination of dive bar and restaurant. Although it strives to look like a disreputable beach shack, and mostly succeeds, the atmosphere is just for show, and it’s actually a clean place. Larry’s Shack is the place to go in Port Canaveral for hot wings, fried chicken, and chicken and waffles.
Rikki Tikki Tavern
The Cocoa Beach Pier is world famous. Equally well known is the bar at it’s very end. Less well known is the name of that bar. It’s called the Rikki Tikki Tavern, and it is the place to have a drink, listen to the surf, and have a bite. Its location can’t be beaten.
Preacher Bar
The Preacher Bar is a New Orleans-inspired bar with 30 craft beers on tap, and even more available in bottles. The décor is lively, the food is pub style and good. There isn’t much more you can ask for in a dive style bar.
With a variety of delicious food options to choose from, Go Port has made sure to offer just as many choices for pre/post cruise accommodations for those flying in or driving in for their cruise vacation.
