New Ships Coming to Port Canaveral in 2016

oasis and allure of the seas

We’ve spotlighted the Enchantment of the Seas, Freedom of the Seas, Carnival VictoryCarnival Sunshine, Disney Dream, and Norwegian Spirit. What about the Port Canaveral cruise ships that are coming?  Or the ships that are leaving?  What is the new rotation that is coming in 2016, and what can cruisers expect?

Carnival

Carnival Magic

Carnival has already changed its Port Canaveral lineup. There were three ships sailing out of Port Canaveral in 2015: Carnival Valor, Carnival Sensation, and Carnival Sunshine. The Valor went into dry dock for refurbishment at the start of 2016. The Sensation heads to Miami by the end of February, and the Sunshine will spend the summer season sailing out of ports like Charleston and Norfolk. However, their replacements are already arriving.

The Sensation’s replacement, the Carnival Victory, has already arrived and it has been filling in for the Valor until Carnival’s Fun Ship 2.0 upgrades are installed. Meanwhile, the Carnival Magic is going into dry dock at the end of February, and after upgrades are done the Magic will be sailing to Port Canaveral. This means that Port Canaveral will have two ships with Carnival’s latest features, dining venues, and attractions, and when the Sunshine returns from sailing northern ports in fall Port Canaveral will have a full four ships with Carnival’s Fun Ship 2.0 enhancements.

Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbeans Oasis of the Seas

Royal Caribbean’s current Port Canaveral line up is the Freedom of the Seas and the Enchantment of the Seas. In May the Enchantment of the Seas short 3 and 4-night Bahama cruises are taken over by the Majesty of the Seas. A smaller, older ship, but one that is undergoing refit and has the promise of unlimited free high-speed Wi-Fi.  In November, the Freedom of the Seas leaves Port Canaveral as well, but its replacement is a big deal, literally. The Oasis of the Seas is one of the world’s largest cruise ships, and might have tied with or beat the ship that is officially the largest—the Allure of the Seas—had it been a warmer day out when the measurements took place.

We’ve all been there.

The Oasis class of ships isn’t just the world’s largest class of cruise ships. They’re also some of the most sophisticated, with many of the features from the Quantum class being added to the Oasis, and standardized on the following ships: Allure and Harmony of the Seas. The Oasis of the Seas will be sailing 7 and 8 night Western and Eastern Caribbean cruises.

Norwegian Cruise Lines

Norwegian Epic

Norwegian Cruise Line’s current Port Canaveral ship is the Spirit. A smaller ship that manages to have larger cabins than expected, and one that packs a great deal of fun onboard. It’s being replaced in November by the much larger Norwegian Epic which is the second largest ship in Norwegian’s fleet which makes November one of the biggest months in Port Canaveral history.  Port Canaveral is the world’s second largest cruise port, and Cruise Critic’s 2015 pick for best North American Home Port.

The Epic will take over the Spirit’s regular 7 to 14-day itineraries of Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises. The Spirit in the meantime will head across the Atlantic to begin cruising the Mediterranean Sea, which makes for the only oceanic crossing that sails from Port Canaveral.

Disney Cruise Lines

Disney magic

Disney Cruise Line’s home port is Port Canaveral. It’s right next to Disney World after all. Disney doesn’t have any new ships or new builds in the docket currently.  Their big news is the departure of the Disney Magic in May for Europe.

This is a 14-day voyage that is heading to Boston, Sydney (Nova Scotia not Australia), Dublin Ireland, and heads on to Liverpool England, before concluding in Dover England. It’s a repositioning cruise, and the only way to sail to the UK from Port Canaveral.

Disney Cruise Line’s two newest and largest ships, the Dream and the Fantasy, will remain in Port Canaveral.

Through all the Port expansions and incoming cruise ships, Go Port will be there to cater to all cruisers flying in with all-in-one packages that include Port Canaveral hotels, airport transportation, and cruise transfers. To those driving in, book a Snooze park and cruise hotel package with cruise parking and transfers!
